Periodically, you look back in hindsight, and must thank the universe for the way things worked out. That’s exactly how I’m feeling about the apartment I almost bought, quite recently. Luckily, it fell through. At the time I was desperate to purchase this apartment and it nearly destroyed me when I didn’t successfully secure the apartment for myself! It was a few weeks later that I began feeling vindicated for my failure when the new owners posted a long complaint online, about the deplorable Heating, Ventilation & A/C plan they accidentally inherited!
Any non-functional heating and cooling plan is a tough break when you’ve just paid out 300k for a house. It’s a true inconvenience to have an old gas furnace updated, a modern AC unit installed, or faulty control unit connections fixed. All of these Heating, Ventilation & A/C complications sound like minor inconveniences compared to what these poor folks ended up with. Apparently they had moved into the house, feeling extremely happy for the new life they were creating. A day or more later, however, they began to realize that the AC unit had a difficult time keeping up with the hot, humid outdoor air. Although the cooling plan was running on full blast, they barely even noticed any cool air passing through the air vents. At first, they figured that the AC just needed a regular tune up from a professional Heating, Ventilation & A/C contractor!
When their cooling expert arrived and tested the AC unit, however, he found there was nothing wrong with the actual machinery. The problem was hidden in the house, deep inside the walls where the air ducts were contaminated with the damage and filth left behind by generations of rodents. This tale offered me a wonderful reason to worry about the non-disclosure agreement.
