My fiance and I really want to remodel our house. We’ve lived in it for about three years now, and we’ve noticed a lot of things about it that we would really like to change. Right now the house is actually split into two apartments. There’s an upper and lower apartment, each with their own utilities and HVAC systems. When it was just me living here, that was a great setup, but when my fiance moved in, we became a bit cramped with someone living upstairs. We decided to take over the whole house after the old tenant moved out last year. Since then, we went through a lot of changes. I realized that having all that space was actually too much! On top of that, paying monthly utility bills for two apartments was a headache. The utility company wouldn’t give me just one bill for both. They insisted that if the apartments had separate heating systems and meters, then they can’t be put into one account. On top of that all the cleaning started to pile up. Plus all the maintenance that goes into the house. With everything going on, trying to fit in time to do things like routine maintenance on the HVAC systems was next to impossible. We ended up deciding to move back downstairs and just have the one apartment and then go back to renting the other. It’s only been two months and I’ve already had time to do the yearly maintenance on the HVAC systems. It was definitely the right call to downsize!
