At the age of forty, I began to go through menopause. My doctor told me it was really unusual for someone my age to go through menopause, but it happened. She tried to tell me that my body was going to be going through some really difficult changes and if I felt like I was feuding with myself, it was normal. She also told me that I could call her at any time. My husband seemed to be the one that ended up with the brunt of my menopause. I found myself going through hot flashes. I would go so hot that I felt like I was going to spontaneously combust. I turned the thermostat down really low, hoping to get some comfort. The air conditioning would be running full blast, but I wasn’t happy. Then it would pass, but an hour later, I would be shivering. The thermostat would now be turned up, and the furnace would be running. My husband would go from baking because of the heat, or freezing because of the air conditioner. I felt bad for him, but I didn’t know what to do. Because of my constant fluctuations, and changing the thermostat, the energy bill was soaring. My husband called our HVAC contractor, and he explained the problem. He told him that this was a normal complaint from husbands and women with menopause. He suggested we put in Zone Control. Zone Control gave me the ability to pick a room I wanted to be in, and I could change the thermostat as often as I liked without affecting the rest of the house.
